What is Google Adwords?
Google Adwords basically allows you to create and run targeted ads for your business, as quickly and easily as possible. It is an advertising network that is basically comprised of you creating an ad and then selecting keywords to bid on that relate to your ad. You set a maximum limit for your bids, and if you win the bidding then your ad is displayed. Beginners may find that when they start out, mainstream keywords are extremely expensive, and their adds are not getting displayed high enough on the main Google search page. (I know this from personal experience!) But after awhile, when a relationship is developed with Google, you will find that you are able to gradually lower your bids and still be in a high ad display position! My advice is to stick it out, and eventually you will benefit from cheap traffic to your site(s), and the money you gain from your sites will (hopefully) outweigh the Google Adwords keyword bidding costs. One of the best things about Adwords is that it can help drive a large volume of highly relevant traffic to your website very quickly so if your site needs an instant boost to get it going, I recommend using Adwords, but be wary and bid cautiously...

What is SEO?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is the use of various methods to try and increase the ranking of your website in the organic search results (This is the main bulk of the results that are displayed when something is searched for in a search engine. They are not sponsored ads). When succesfully carried out, SEO can increase the volume or the quality of traffic that is directed to your site. This is (not to put you off, but...) a horrible and draining process, but when carried out effectively, you will benefit from it in the long run! It involves getting a link to your site on as many other external sites as possible - This is known as backlinking.
Also, you need to have high quality content on your site, and you must efficiently use keywords throughout your site. And this is just the tip of the iceberg! But just persevere and you will be able to sit back and reap the rewards in the future!
What is Adsense?
Google Adsense is where you display sponsored ads on your page, and when (or if) they are clicked, you will earn some money. This involves setting up an Adsense account with Google. You also need your own website, or you can use free blogs instead, such as Blogger.com (...like me!). Once you have applied for an account and registered a website, you are able to connect your site to adsense using either HTML code, or by simply following the instructions in Blogger (or other blogging site that integrates Adsense into blogs).
